Honouring a Legend: How the UAEG Immortalises Victor Adegite’s Legacy of Excellence
Every generation in a faculty leaves behind footprints, but very few leave landmarks that alter the entire landscape. At the University of Benin, long before modern lecture halls expanded and digital portals replaced the old registration queues, the Faculty of Agriculture was already quietly building giants. It takes a rare kind of discipline to conquer the grueling demands of agricultural science, navigating everything from endless field practicals to complex biological theories. Yet, every so often, a student steps onto the Ugbowo campus who does not just pass through the system, but completely rewrites what is possible.
That rare standard of brilliance is embodied by the late Dr. Victor Adegoke Adegite. During the 2003/2004 academic session, he shattered long-standing barriers by becoming the very first First Class graduate from the Department of Animal Science, standing tall as the ultimate Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Agriculture.
Adegite refused to let a degree in agriculture box him into a single professional corner. He channeled that fierce academic discipline into the corporate world, mastering complex tax laws and eventually rising to become an Associate Director at KPMG Nigeria. His journey proved that the training received on Ugbowo soil can breed analytical minds capable of commanding boardrooms and driving major impact anywhere in the world.
To keep that powerful fire burning, the University of Benin Agriculture Excellence Guild immortalized his memory through the Victor Adegoke Adegite Award for Best Graduating Student. When exceptional minds like Daberechi Monica Nweke step up to claim this honor, they are not just receiving a prize. They are picking up the baton from a trailblazer who proved that absolute excellence has no expiration date.
